Avinash Ambadas Kalbande, 36, from Manyali village in Yavatmal, was engaged in farming while working
as a helper to a solar technician. Although interested in the sector, his limited technical knowledge
and lack of formal training restricted his ability to grow his income and work independently.
Through the Urjabandhu Solar Technician Training Programme implemented by Prachodhan Development Services with CSR support from ESAF Small Finance Bank, Avinash completed a 45-day course. The programme provided practical training in solar-system installation, maintenance and repair through hands-on learning.
After completing the programme, Avinash became an authorised solar technician under the PM-KUSUM scheme and began working independently while continuing his farming activities. His services have expanded access to solar installations in his village and surrounding areas, helping farmers adopt solar pumps for irrigation.
His monthly income increased from approximately ₹25,000 to ₹30,000, and he has engaged two local staff members, creating additional employment. Avinash’s journey demonstrates how technical skills, certification and targeted livelihood support can enable rural workers to build independent enterprises while contributing to clean-energy adoption.
