All Abilities, One Platform
Bal Ultsav was indeed a celebration in every sense where fun, knowledge, creativity and confidence blended into a soulful mix. While each and every performance and exhibit had its own signature of their thoughts, ideas and dream, the performance by a group of girls from the Samta Nagar club just extended the horizon of limits. They took this platform to voice their rights and views on a matter like ‘child labour’ through confident yet touching portrayal of its realities and the lost opportunities. It wasn't an irony that while the performance was being staged, there were kids of their age into labour and begging in the streets of Nagpur.
We are proud about the Balajyothi kids making their voice count to stop child labour; quoting them – ‘Every child is born to be free’
Mon Muhon Singh Patiri is a 13-year-old boy from Gohpur, Assam. He was diagnosed with autistic disorder. He is not going to school because of his health condition. His parents are not educated and were helpless to teach him according to his ability. Mon Muhon had faced some difficulties for understanding the surroundings and situations and also, he is a deaf child. So, he couldn’t able to understand the sounds. Mr. Ashinto Doley (Balajyothi Club Volunteer) have tried many times to communicate with him. Negative results happened in all the time. Body gestures and repetition of the words could be helpful to generate the idea of communication. After the active involvement and intervention, the results become positive. Although the learning capacity of Mon Muhon is totally different when compare with normal children. He is a slow learner and have the difficulties in head too. His nerve system can’t work properly. But the positive thing is he wants to study the alphabets and achieve the basic communication skills. Hard work and active involvement with other children will be positively influence the life of Mon Muhon.
As we know, Gohpur is a rural village where there are no facilities available for such children to improve their skills and potentials. Recently ESAF balajyoti club was started in Gohpur and the facilitator Ashinto Doley noticed Muhon sing who always come to watch the club activities by standing outside of the club. So Ashinto took the permission from his parents to join him in Balajyoti club. Parents were happy as they never got an opportunity to teach or train him.
It was a difficult task for Ashinto to train him. Ashinto gathered information regarding the Muhon’s strength, parent’s interaction and other areas of concern. He involved Muhon in different activities within the context of his natural routines. After few weeks there was a good improvement in his life. Now he is the first person who is reaching the club every week.
