Ananthi Pradhan, 26, and Michael Pradhan, 28, were migrant workers employed at Abba Renewal Centre in
Cheroor under a contractor. After working for more than a year, they faced prolonged non-payment of
wages. Michael was owed approximately Rs.1.35 lakh for nine months, while Ananthi had pending wages of
around Rs.1.20 lakh for eight months.
The workers first attempted to resolve the matter directly with the contractor, but their concerns remained unresolved. The case was brought to ESAF Garshom, an initiative of Prachodhan Development Services supporting migrant workers in Thrissur. The Garshom team reviewed work records, wage details and the extent of the unpaid dues.
After an unsuccessful attempt at direct resolution, Garshom facilitated the filing of a formal complaint with the District Legal Services Authority. Through continued follow-up and legal intervention, the contractor received notice from the authority, leading to a resolution of the case.
Both workers ultimately received their full pending wages, easing financial stress and restoring a sense of justice and dignity. The case illustrates the importance of accessible support systems, institutional mechanisms and informed guidance in helping migrant workers assert their rights and address workplace exploitation.
